Smart Home Solution

Project Introduction
According to International Data Corporation (IDC), it has been estimated that there will be 50 billion Internet of Things (IoT) devices in the world by 2025. With the help of these IoT devices, tons of IoT applications will come to life, such as smart home applications. One of the main components of IoT applications prototyping or development is a sensor kit, which is a device that has ability to sense the physical environment, such as light, heat, temperature, pressure, etc. However, there are so many available sensor kits on the market, so that it would be difficult for even the experienced developer to select a suitable sensor kit for a particular project.
Provided Solution
During this research, our tram collabrated together to evaluate the various sensor kits available for prototyping and building IoT applications. We have evaluated several kits including TI SensorTag, Shimmer3 IMU, PhidgetSpatial 3/3/3 Basic, 9DoF Razor IMU M0, Xadow Basic Sensors, MTS420CC, SunFounder Basic Sensor Kit and GrovePi+ Base Kit. Our evaluating criteria include sensor types, on-board microcontroller, operating system, connection, language support, IDE, cost, size, energy consumption, connector for expansions, scope of application and if it is easy to get started. Our evaluation results help developers in selecting a sensor kit for a particular IoT application. By using the desired sensor kits, we made an automation system in the kitchen of a house. Finally, after finishing this research, I got UOIT STAR award. To show the result, a poster was made and presented in the showcase event. This poster has been provided below. If you have any questions about the poster or the project, please let me know.
